Non-dairy maintenance compounds
If you process non-dairy animal products and are operating under the Animal Products Act regime, these requirements apply to you.
Requirements for non-dairy maintenance compounds
You must meet requirements for maintaining the hygiene of the processing environment (Regulation 11 of the Animal Products Regulations 2000).
If you process non-dairy animal product or material for human consumption, you must use approved maintenance compounds according to the conditions imposed by MPI. You must comply with the relevant parts of the Approved Maintenance Compounds (Non-Dairy) Manual.
If you process non-dairy animal product or material for animal consumption, you have 2 ways to meet maintenance compounds requirements:
- You can use approved maintenance compounds according to both the conditions imposed by MPI and the manufacturer's instructions, or
- You can determine that the compounds used according to the manufacturer's instructions will not adversely affect the product's suitability for processing or its fitness for its intended purpose.
If you choose option 1 (using approved maintenance compounds), you must comply with the relevant parts of the Approved Maintenance Compounds (Non-Dairy) Manual.
MPI maintains a list that provides summary information on all approved non-dairy maintenance compounds.
Getting an approval
All relevant information you need for approval is available in the manual.
It describes the types of compounds that require specific evaluation and approval, the process of obtaining approval, and the conditions under which approval will be given.
