Codes of Practice are a set of guidelines to follow to help you comply with recommended standards and requirements.

Codex Code of Hygienic Practice for Meat

Codex Code of Hygienic Practice for Meat [PDF, 380 KB] - The scope of this code covers hygiene provisions for raw meat, meat preparations and manufactured meat from the time of live animal production up to the point of retail sale.

Dairy - NZCP1: Design and operation of farm dairies - Code of practice [PDF, 1.1 MB]- Reflects acceptable industry-agreed practice for the design and operation of farm dairies producing raw milk (including colostrum).

Dairy - NZCP2: Assessment of Farm Dairies - Code of Practice [PDF, 597 KB]- Sets out requirements and procedures for the assessment of farm dairies.

Egg and poultry

Egg Code of Practice [PDF, 3.7 MB] - If you produce eggs for sale, you can use the Technical annex of this COP to develop your RMP. The rest of the document is outdated.

Poultry Export - Code of Practice [PDF, 267 KB]- The Official Assurance Programme (OAP) for live animals and germplasm is an export programme specifically related to the export of live animals, and to the germplasm of some species. The programme is supported by legal notices and is published as two types of documents that set the standards and specifications for export:

Processing of Seafood Products - Code of Practice - This COP is to assist seafood operators to meet the requirements of the Animal Products Act 1999 and produce safe and suitable seafood products.

Further processing

Further processing - Code of practice [PDF, 539 KB]- The further processing Code of Practice contains guidance for good operating practices (GOP) for a range of processing operations.

Rendering

Rendering - Code of practice [PDF, 798 KB]- The Rendering Code of Practice applies to businesses producing rendered animal products intended for animal consumption, such as meat and bone meal, dried blood, fish meal, poultry meal, feather meal, tallow, fish oil and poultry fat.

Wine - Fruit wine, cider and mead

Wine Standards Management Plan Code of Practice for Fruit Wine, Cider and Mead - This Code of Practice is designed to help fruit wine, cider and mead makers meet the requirements under the Wine Act 2003.

Tips - try using:
  • one word for precise results - for example, alligator
  • multiple words for broader results. For example, alligator meat returns documents with either alligator or meat
  • quotation marks to search a specific term - for example, 'alligator meat' returns documents with the exact phrase 'alligator meat'
